I am a proud TU alumnus (BS, Athletic Training; MA, Education) and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute 20 years of experience as a professor and educational leader to the Academic Advising Team to support your academic success. I grew up in western Oklahoma and, after attending TU, practiced athletic training for a large Tulsa sports medicine clinic. Through this practice, I learned that my passion was clinically mentoring and teaching AT, PT, and medical students while providing of direct patient care. Hard work met opportunity and soon I had the opportunity to join the faculty at another institution. When I had the opportunity to come back to TU in 2005, the greatest place on earth, I jumped at it! Somewhere along the path I also completed my doctorate at Oklahoma State University in Higher Education, Educational Leadership.
Whether in the classroom, in advising, at ACSU, at sporting events, or around the city, I thoroughly enjoy meeting and interacting with students s and helping them to pursue their passion. The university advising team is a natural extension of these relationships. In addition to serving as Director for the Center, I also serve as Associate Dean of Health Sciences and as Clinical Professor of Athletic Training.
I enjoy hanging out with my bride of 25 years, Dawn (TU Alumni), and my kids Fallon (TU Student), Boone and wife Alyssa, and Skylar. I also love checking out all that Tulsa has to offer, traveling, and doing just about anything outdoors.
I am a native Oklahoman, and other than a 7 year teaching career in San Elizario, Tx, I have lived in the northeastern part of Oklahoma. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance and my Master of Science in Student Personnel Services from Northeastern State University. I have 18 years of experience in different aspects of Higher Education, with 14 years dedicated to academic advising. I have been at the University of Tulsa for 7 years.
I enjoy working with students as they strive to achieve their goals. Each student is a puzzle with their own pieces and patterns. I love helping them build the framework as new students, then fill in the missing pieces as we move through the degree process. Every aspect of college life finds a home, interconnecting with each other piece until the puzzle is complete. Graduation day is one of my favorite days of the year. When each student I’ve had a hand in working with comes through, I feel a sense of accomplishment as they make their way out into the world.
In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing at home with my husband Austin and our daughter Jaelyn. Football dominates my fall and winter weekends. The rest of the year I can be found hiding out with a good book or two.
I’m a native Tulsan and have lived here almost all my life. After earning my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma, I began my professional career in higher education. I’ve been an academic advisor for over 13 years. I’ve advised at a few Oklahoma universities throughout that time, but TU has been my home for the last 3 years. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to advise students in Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business and Health Sciences programs.
Helping students navigate their college experience, from course selection to extracurricular opportunities, truly fills my bucket. I love that TU is small enough that I can form strong bonds with my students. College has become such a complex environment and my goal is to help make it easier for you to access the services and advice you need to maximize your TU experience. I strive every day to be the advisor I wish I had as a first-generation college student.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my children, Samantha and Grant, my husband, Kasey, and my energetic aussie pup, Archie. I also love to bake (and eat!), read, and try new local eateries!
A native Tulsan, I am also an alumna of TU having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Class of 1995. Currently, I am pursuing a graduate degree in Business and have just a few more courses to finish out the MBA. My professional career path began in 1998 working in the Office of Admission and I recruited new students to The University of Tulsa over the following 14 years. In 2012, I transitioned to the Collins College of Business as an Enrollment Management Coordinator. I thoroughly enjoy my involvement and personal interactions with students…watching them arrive on campus, bright-eyed and ambitious and working toward their life/professional goals. Guiding students in their educational pursuits is one of the most rewarding aspects of working at my alma mater. It simply inspires me.
I am a wife of 30 years and we are proud parents of a four-legged fur baby; our chocolate lab. For relaxation and recreation, I enjoy cinema, dining out, live music/dancing, bicycling and yoga.
I am a proud Okie! I have lived in the Tulsa area my entire life, except when I attended colleges outside of the area. My higher education journey was a long and winding road with many peaks and valleys. It began as a first generation college student taking my very first college class in the summer after I graduated from a small high school. The journey continued over the next 16 years earning my Associates of Science in Business degree from Tulsa Community College and then earning my Bachelor of Business degree in Marketing from Northeastern State University – Tulsa Campus as a single parent with two small children. Over the next six years, I worked full-time in higher education, still a single parent, and completed my Master of Business Administration from Northeastern State University – Muskogee Campus. I consider myself a lifelong learner so I am continuing to explore areas of interest to me along with still learning in my profession of advising.
My 19-year career in higher education began as a financial aid counselor at Northeastern State University – Broken Arrow Campus. My career continued on there with working and learning in several areas, including advising. Eight years ago, my career brought me to The University of Tulsa. I am able to rely on my own experiences as a student and as a professional advisor to help students navigate their own higher education journey. I want that journey to be a happy and fulfilling experience without it being a windy road like mine was. I enjoy visiting with students to help them take care of what they may need, but to also get to know them. Establishing a good working relationship with a student will allow us both to work toward their ultimate career and life goals. Every interaction deserves mutual respect and kindness.
I am very proud of my two kids! They are both in their 20’s and they make my world a very interesting place. My non-verbal autistic daughter, who is the eldest, brings patience and understanding into my world. She loves watching her movies and being on her tablet. My son is a tech-savvy gamer who has a great sense of humor. He brings smiles and laughter into my life. Our dog brings cuddles and unconditional love to all of us. Every day is a good day!
Education: Bachelor in Computer Information Systems, Universidad del Valle de Atemajac – Plantel Zamora, México.
Specialty: Academic Programs in the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences
I was born in Zamora, Michoacán (México), and was a first-generation college student. I moved to Oklahoma in 2002. I am fluent in Spanish and English and have worked in Higher Education for twelve years. I started this journey as a Prospective Student Services Representative for the Oklahoma State University – Institute of Technology, traveling all over Oklahoma and surrounding states to meet with High School Seniors to provide information about available academic programs, financial aid, and scholarships. I worked as the Assistant Registrar and Spanish Adjunct Teacher at Connors State College. Then I had the great opportunity to begin my career at the University of Tulsa in July of 2013 as an Enrollment Management Coordinator and Retention Specialist for the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences. In August of 2017, I was named the Director of Advising & Retention for this college. In January of 2020, I was promoted as the Director of Advising, Retention, Transfer & Career Alignment for the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences. I received the “Retention Alert Initiatives and Excellence in Student Support 2014-2015” award. In May 2019, I received the “2019 TU Commitment Cup” to participate in the Gardner Institute Work Group in the Tulsa Transfer Project.
I love to advocate for our students at TU, being a mentor, connect them to resources that will help them achieve their academic goals, help students explore their passion, and provide the plan for them to attain timely graduation. I enjoy diversity, equity, and inclusion, and believe that every student can achieve their educational goals, providing a compassionate and empathetic approach during our advising sessions. I enjoy working with all types of students, freshman, transfers, domestic and international, and I have learned so much from each one of them. I am an ally to our LGBTQ TU community, and my office is a Safe Zone for all our students. When I see my advisees at their Commencement Ceremony, my heart rejoices as if they were my children walking proud and accomplished!
I enjoy holidays and traveling, spending time with my husband and sons, daughter-in-law, and visiting my family in Mexico. I enjoy cuisine from diverse countries and getting to know their culture and traditions through gastronomy.
I grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Music degree. During my time as an undergraduate, I was drawn to the idea of a career in student affairs after working as a student employee in the Office of International Students and Scholars. Shortly after graduating, I knew that I wanted to begin a career in higher education and have been working as a professional in the field ever since. I have experience in admissions, immigration advising, and academic advising, and my journey led me from OSU to the University of California, Riverside before arriving at TU in 2011. I was recently accepted to OSU’s Master of Science in educational leadership studies program with an emphasis in college student development. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join with and learn from individuals who are dedicated to the continual improvement of the higher education environment.
As an academic advisor, I am committed to ensuring that my students have the knowledge and resources they need to feel confident that they are on the right track. When there are obstacles or challenges along the way, my goal is to be a reliable source of information and support. College is a time of enormous transformation, and whether your plans have stayed the same or changed completely, I am here to help you to the finish line. I want to know you and hear your story!
My partner, Craig, and I were married in 2017 and we have two great kids: Miles and Luca. As a family we enjoy watching The Office reruns, playing board games, making the best homemade pizzas of all time, and hanging out with our grand and noble Siberian cat, Dickens.
I grew up in upstate New York and moved to Oklahoma when I was in high school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medical/Molecular Biology from Rogers State University in 2010. Immediately following graduation, I was hired at RSU as the Lab Coordinator for the Health Sciences Department. In 2012, I was offered a brand position as academic advisor for the College of Math, Science and Health Sciences at RSU and remained in that position until I came to TU in August 2017 as an advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences.
I love watching the development of students personally and academically during this transformative time in their lives. I am happy to play a small part in helping them pursue their dreams. TU students continue to amaze and inspire me. They are the reason I love what I do!
I live with my husband of 21 years, Tony, and our two sons, Daniel and Lucas, who are both in college. When I work with our students, I often think of my own kids and try to provide the same level of care and concern that I would want them to receive. I love to spend my free time knitting and eating chocolate chip cookies.
